Dr. Dodson House offers five-star hospitality and an in-town location just one house from the harbor and steps from popular Talbot Street with its interesting shops and fabulous restaurants. The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum and St. Michaels Museum at St. Mary's Square are nearby, in addition to numerous in-town parks. Muskrat Park, a block away, has been recently renovated with gorgeous plantings and brick walkways, and hosts the Saturday morning local farmer's market in season. The inn was built in 1799 by Samuel Harrison, and began life as a tavern and the town's first post office. History buffs will appreciate its original features, including doors, woodwork, fireplaces, and wavy glass.

When you stay at Dr. Dodson House Bed & Breakfast, you will notice the difference in the attention to detail. 2011 marks the 18th year that our guests have been warmly welcomed and pampered during their stay. We encourage you to click on the link below to tripadvisor reviews so that you can read what our guests have to say!

In 1872 Sarah Louisa Bruff doubled the size of the original brick structure and added a spectacular two story porch. The house remains one of the best preserved examples of federal period architecture in the historic district and is featured on both the St. Mary's Square Museum walking tour map and the Talbot County Historical Society's Frederick Douglass site map. In his autobiography, Mr. Douglass describes his visit to the house in 1877, where he and his former master reconciled their differences. Come enjoy the character of this beautiful antique home and enjoy life's little luxuries - you might just want to settle in to a chaise lounge on the second floor porch with your favorite book!

We're Noted for Hospitality

In the dining room, you will find a wet bar outfitted with an icemaker, a refrigerator with bottled water and seltzer, and a microwave for popcorn; guests may also help themselves for that first cup of coffee or tea before breakfast in the dining room. Let us know if you need assistance with dinner reservations - there are some great restaurants within walking distance.

Breakfast is an "Event"!

One thing our guests rave about is breakfast! Each morning you will be given a choice of a sweet or savory entree such as Eggs Benedict, Carmelized Onion and Fresh Tomato Tarts, Banana Pecan Waffles, Grand Marnier Blueberry Cheese Blintzes, Caramel French Toast, or Mushroom and Cheese Omelets. You may also enjoy fresh fruit topped with a refreshing scoop of berry sherbet, selected juices, coffee, tea, and sometimes in addition, muffins or sausage. Breakfast is elegantly served in the dining room at your choice of time from 8 - 9:30 a.m. - by a cozy fire in winter. The house is cooled by central air conditioning in the warmer months. Early risers, late sleepers or light eaters may arrange in advance for a continental breakfast "to go". There is plenty to see and do after breakfast, such as a boat ride, a walk through the historic district, shopping, or perhaps reserve a bicycle to ride to the Oxford Ferry or just around St. Michaels...a quintessentially charming waterside village.

Our Guest Rooms and Amenities

There are two lovely guest rooms on the second floor, the Harrison Room and the Dodson Room, which have very comfortable queen size canopy beds, real wood-burning fireplaces, and private bathrooms with marble showers and antique marble sinks. The Dodson Room can accommodate a third person on a daybed. A smaller room on the third floor, the Harborview Room, offers the option of twin beds or a king with private bathroom. The angled ceiling, dormer windows and exposed brick wall provide a cozy atmosphere - there's even a peek over the rooftops at the Miles River and the Thomas Point Lighthouse at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum.

We haven't forgotten the creature comforts like down pillows, all the essential toiletries, bathrobes, hair dryers, clock radios with iPod docks, digital flat screen TVs, heated mattress pads, free WiFi (wireless connection only), and umbrellas.

The Harrison Room and Dodson Room have woodburning fireplaces, which are set once daily for you to enjoy during the winter months. The third floor room has an electric fireplace, which can provide the look of a fire with or without heat. Of course, during times that the central air conditioning is provided for your comfort, the woodburning fireplaces cannot be used.

Please consider visiting soon! It's a place that we know you will want to return to time and time again.
